CEED researcher Dr Alienor Chauvenet has defended the role of zoos as part of a vital global network that keeps our most vulnerable species alive.

Dr Chauvenet is a postdoctoral research fellow in The University of Queensland’s School of Biological Sciences. 

Writing in The Conversation, Dr Chauvenet has emphasised the changing role of zoos since they began as 19th century menageries.

“Without captive breeding and reintroduction efforts, there might be no Californian Condor or Przewalski’s Horse – the only truly wild horse – left in the wild,” she writes.
